Not as sweet and personal as some of these beautiful experiences, but in terms of just a great all around hostel experience I LOVED Secret Garden Cotopaxi hostel because you are in the middle of a national park with only the Andes and alpacas around you, no internet or cell service, all meals and hikes done together, so it is the ultimate bonding experience. 3 days there and you feel like everyone is your family and that you know them so well! I actually took my parents there once when I forced them on their first backpacking experience. It was their first hostel and they were a little nervous that they'd be too old for it, but they ended up thriving more than anyone! 3 years later and they are still in touch with the people we met there from all around the world. There's also a giant multiperson hammock overlooking the volcanoes and free banana cake available around the clock 😂
I went to Spain in January before school started again for the first time on my own. The Black Swan in Barcelona was an absolute awesome place to visit. They had free tours of the gothic quarter that were haunted, and I met a friend who I went hiking on the trail to Montessorat monastary. She spoke fluent Spanish thankfully and was the guide to get on the train to the place. It was an exhilarating adventure, and I plan to return one day to see more of Spain and Europe in the future. The hostel was open, and lots of people were going through, I even met some people from my home state.
When I was in Thailand with my friend and her family I ended up running away from them as they were crazy and found myself in Bangkok for the first time, alone at 18.
People in my hostel noticed I was alone and upset and pulled me into chats and invited me to go places. Although I never ended up exploring Bangkok with them as I cut my trip short, I am forever grateful to them for making me laugh and feel better in a really upsetting time.
This probably isn't as exciting for y'all as it was for me but when i was all broke with legit no money left in Spain i decided to work for accomodation and to see if that was possible (didnt feel like sleeping on the streets), so when i got a few no's i finally had found a hostel which let me stay there for a couple of hours of work. I was over the moon since i was so stressed out and it turned out that they didn't have any dorms left but i had already worked there so they ended up giving me a private room (with shower!!!) and i even got paid a little (: i then made some amazing friends whom had connections with other hostel owners so i made my way through spain with working for accomodation with sometimes a little bit of money! made me want to travel more and more!

Definitely got to be the halfway to Christmas party at the Yellow Square hostel in Rome! Was just so much fun and so random in July haha😂
