I was planning to take a gap year from November 2020, going to Southeastasia. Some borders are opening already soon, some in fall. I also saw, that there are rn a lot of rules, like only some areas of the countries open first or dorm rooms are just for one person/group with kitchens and common rooms closed. But it seems to be different everywhere. Do you think that it's worth it still to do the gap year? Maybe it gets better over time. I'm craving for a break.
Is anybody still out there traveling or is planning to travel end of the year to SEA again? How is it rn?
Would love to here your thoughts and plans about it.
yes honestly go!!
Thanks! I want to got between 3 and 9 months.
Just like Nikki said I think it depends on for how long you want to go! You'd want to visit loads of touristy sites and I feel like this year not everthing would be open yet. I, myself, postponed my second gap year to 2021/22 :)
hi, my friend is in SEA right now and i was planning on visiting her this fall, however, she states that this isn't the best time if you are going for a short period of time, i don't know how long you want to go but if you are only going for a week of two, three i would suggest waiting a little bit longer so you can actually do some tourist attractions / have the amazing experiece. If you are going for a year i would say do it, the hostels are indeed emptier but there are still fellow travellers who are going through the same thing so it's a bonding experience! A year of travels will be by far enough to experience it even though you can't do everything yet. I would suggest looking at the having to go into quarentine tho! because sometimes you have to go into quarentine for two weeks and the hotel expenses are yours (can cost you 2k!!)
Thanks, that makes hope! When the places are usually overcrowded and in the beginning there would just be a part of them it's still enough people right? And everyone is itching to travel again.
I live in a very touristy area in Germany and from the week on where tourism inside Germany was allowed again it was full of tourists. So my hopes stay for SEA.
As a social person i'd be a bit worried on the fact that hostels would more likely be emptier, I am sure either way you will meet awesome like minded travellers in an area I have also been dying to visit soon! It is going to be a while before travelling, especially backpacking gets back to where it previously was but don't think it should stop anyone as long as you are being safe, why not make the most of it!
Wow exactly the same plan and thoughts! Yes, I am also afraid that it's not the same and hard to meet people and even be free to go wherever you want :( But I'm waiting for this for years ðŸ˜
My original plan was to head to SEA in November 2020 but I've accepted this won't be likely, anymore but I'm still really hoping I'll get to go in January or February 2021. Just worried we won't get the full experience - not sure if it'd be worth spending all the money to go out there and have loads of places be closed/ enforcing social distancing rules which might make the whole experience less enjoyable or more stressful. Fingers crossed everything will work out though!!! x
