At the end of my WHV, I’d love to do a 1-2 month road trip of the west coast but I’m worried that there I won’t have anyone else to go with. Is it realistic to assume I’ll meet someone in my first 10 months there who’s also interested? Do the backpackers there normally have a strict plan or do they often make last minute plans such as a road trip?

Hey! I did a 6 week road trip of the west coast and it was the absolute highlight of my australian trip! It’s a lot less travelled by overseas backpackers and best done by renting a car/campervan so definitely something to plan for later on in your trip Once you’ve met people. The east coast is full of backpackers and you will meet tonnes of people in hostels and during activities and travel plans always come up in conversations so just mention your West coast plans, the rough dates you want to do it and see if they’re on board with you! As mentioned before, fb groups are also a great idea to find people with similar plans. A little heads up though, make sure you get on well with the people you plan to travel with as the west coast is quite remote and you’ll spend a lot of days on The road and stuck in the car. Hope this helps!
Absolutely! you'll most likely find people who will want to do a road trip to the west coast, however, if you don't that's okay as well! you can always just go by yourself or with group tours. It all just depends on what you are going to do when you are in Australia. If you're starting out with a group tour you will most likely find at least 1 person who will want to join BUT you are going to have to make compromises, that's why i love travelling alone. anyway back to your question, yes you will meet people that want to do the west coast as well even though this is a less famous backpacking route. backpackers normally don't have a tight scheduale or a strict plan and will love some opportunities. You can always become a member of a FB group because lots of backpackers still use these! hope i helped a little x
